Happy Juneteenth!

Celebrating the quest for freedom still in 2025!

Hey fierce Black biz supporter!

Happy Juneteenth! I hope you’re having a great day and if you have to work (outside of the medical field) I hope you’re giving them the absolute least 😇 .

When I think of supposed “Freedom day” and how freedom seekers and enslaved were anxious and excited to be free only to have their very existence in places be weaponized so they could thrown in jail in order to offer free labor all over again, I’m conflicted. They didn’t know that was going to happen but I’ll bet they were somewhat skeptical. Because how could the very people who yesterday thought they were “property” would tomorrow consider them their “equals”? That’s not how the mind nor history works.

Anyway, today I want you to take some time to think about what was going on some 160yrs ago and how much of it has changed compared to today. Then I want you to take some action.

Here are some things you can do today to celebrate and commemorate this day.

1) Give an African American person some money just because. I know Archivist Books is raising money right now → https://gofund.me/4b6d54b7.

2) Shop Black owned (that’s where we come in) → https://blackownedinrochester.com/black-owned-businesses-grouped-by-category/

3) Check out some celebrations and Black Owned businesses in person at the RMSC Juneteenth celebration →

4) Donate to Black Owned in Rochester to help us keep the mission going. Every little bit helps in getting the word out about these awesome 400+ Black owned businesses in the Greater Rochester Area!

Thanks for being here!

P.S. I’m probably going to order some soul food from Cassie’s Citchen as that’s my favorite place.
