Good Day Rochester!

Growing up I’ve always had a hard time with “Independence Day” because as a Generational Black American, my ancestors weren’t free nor independent. They were still being sold, traded, and ripped from their families. If they thought to escape they were searched for, found, and brought back.

So when I discovered Frederick Douglass’s Speech that lamented exactly how I felt, I felt vindicated. How can we celebrate independence when our FELLOW citizens are not free? Think about this today…
