Celebrate Juneteenth in Rochester, NY!
Juneteenth marks the historic end of enslavement* in the United States. It honors the day when enslaved individuals in Texas, finally received word of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.
*enslavement is still legal when it comes to persons “convicted of a crime” per the 13th amendment. A really big loophole that’s led to the over policing and incarceration of Black folks.
Here are some events happening in Rochester in honor of Juneteenth! ALL are welcome to celebrate (respectfully).
